Just as he did for Avraham (see “Taking the Measure of Avraham”) , R. Dr. J.H. Hertz (The Pentateuch and Haftorahs, Soncino Press, London, 1963, p. 141, re Beraishit 37:2 “These are the generations of Yaakov. Yosef, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren, being still a lad even with the sons of Bilha, and with the sons of Zilpa, his father’s wives; and Yosef brought evil report of them unto their father”) writes an intriguing introduction to the stories concerning Yosef that make up the rest of the book of Beraishit from Parashat VaYeishev onwards.
