The global environment for Jews in 2015 has become increasingly dangerous both physically and existentially. This state of affairs is not something that has suddenly been sprung upon us, but could be observed as evolving over the last few years. It appears that the moratorium regarding overt anti-Semitism in many quarters that was initiated at least informally after the horrors of the Holocaust came to light, is no longer in effect for the same reasons reflected in the well-known Rabbinic disagreement concerning the understanding of a difficult biblical verse:
Shemot 1:8
Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who knew not Yosef.
Since Yosef had played such a key role for a significant number of years with respect to sparing Egyptian society and the surrounding area from a devastating famine, how could a government leader assume power and not be aware of the extraordinary contribution made by this man and therefore the people associated with him?
