The relationship between Rivka and Yitzchak appears to be more distant than intimate. It is striking that the single time that the Tora records a direct interchange between them, it is a misrepresentation—perhaps due more to omission than commission—of the truth. Does this symbolize how Rivka related to her considerably older husband throughout their marriage?
Following Yaakov’s dishonestly obtaining the blessing that it would appear Yitzchak intended originally for Eisav, using tactics that his mother Rivka orchestrated, Rivka tells Yitzchak why Yaakov must leave his family’s encampment and travel to Padan-Aram:
Beraishit 27:46
And Rivka said to Yitzchak: “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Chet. If Yaakov take a wife of the daughters of Chet, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?”
