Amnon Bazak’s first essay for Parashat Acharei Mot, “Mot Benai Aharon VeAvodat Yom HaKippurim” (Nekudat Peticha: Iyunim Ketzarim BePeshuta Shel Parashat HaShavua, [revised and expanded], Yediot Acharonot, Rishon LeTziyon, 2018, pp. 256-7), he notes the connection between the beginning of the Parashat HaShavua (VaYikra 16), that deals with the Yom HaKippurim ritual in the Tabernacle, and the tragic incident listed at the beginning of Parashat Shemini:
