The late, distinguished neurologist, Dr. Oliver Sacks, was the author of a number of books sensitively and reflectively describing various strange conditions that afflicted some of the patients that he treated over the years. Titles include: Awakenings, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat, An Anthropologist on Mars, and Musicophelia. Of particular interest to observant Jews are his last two published columns, “Sabbath” in the Aug. 14th, 2015 New York Times ( http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/16/opinion/sunday/oliver-sacks-sabbath.html ), and “Filler Fish” in The New Yorker of Sept. 14th of the same year ( http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/09/14/filter-fish ).
